How Does Hypnosis Work?

Your subconscious is that part of your mind that controls your body’s automatic functions like your breathing and heart rate.

It also creates your subconscious drives and desires – including your food cravings and your drive to eat when you are upset or to overeat.

Like a computer, your subconscious mind runs on a program. Up to this point, that program has been written by your life experiences, by what other people have said to you and by what you have said to yourself.

Fortunately, while you may have little control over your life experiences or other people's behavior, you can reprogram your subconscious mind - and get rid of the negative effect these things have had on your life - through hypnosis.


What Is The Hypnotic State?

The hypnotic state is simply a deeply relaxed state during which your subconscious mind is particularly susceptible to suggestions.

When you use hypnosis for weight loss – or for any other purpose - you go into this deeply relaxed state and then use your imagination to visualize what the hypnotist is telling you.

In this way you create new experiences. And those new experiences reprogram your subconscious.

This works because you subconscious mind can't distinguish between real experiences and imaginary ones. Nor can it distinguish between what you might consciously consider true statements (I love donuts) and false ones (I love vegetables).


Is Hypnosis Dangerous?

Although staged theatrics have created the impression that a hypnotized person is under the control of the hypnotist, this is not true. During hypnosis you are not asleep. You remain aware of your environment. And YOU remain in control.


Using Hypnosis For Weight Loss

To begin using hypnosis for weight loss you will want to either visit a hypnotist or purchase a CD, DVD or download an MP3 file that has been scripted to help you achieve the hypnotic state and is worded in the best way to help you reprogram your subconscious mind.

I usually recommend using a CD or MP3 because the more you practice hypnosis, the better you will become at it. If you choose to visit a hypnotist ask him or her to record your session so you can replay it at home.
