How To Find The Ideal Weight Loss Program
As we all know, there are a lot diets and weight loss programs out there.
So how do you find the ideal weight loss program for you?

As medical weight loss specialists we think that a weight loss program needs to:
Be Totally Healthy. You may be able to lose weight by eating nothing but grapefruits or spending four hours a day at the gym working yourself into exhaustion, but if you damage your health, your weight will be the least of your problems.
In addition to promoting weight loss, the ideal weight loss program should promote your overall health by minimizing consumption of unhealthy food and encouraging you to engage ONLY in healthy practices.
If the weight loss program that you are considering entices you to join with promises of being able to eat all the unhealthy foods that you want, suggests that you don't need to engage in any kind of exercise, or gives you any other unhealthy advice run the other way!
Preserve Muscle. If you are following a truly healthy weight loss program you can expect to lose about two pounds of body weight a week.
If you are losing more weight than that you are either losing water weight - or worse – you are losing muscle.
Muscle is a metabolically active tissue, so when you lose muscle mass you slow your metabolic rate. This means you will burn fewer calories during the day and will feel drained and tired.
In the end, this will cause you to REGAIN the weight you’ve lost. And you will regain that weight as fat.
Provide Lasting Results. A lot of diets can help you lose weight. But if the program you are considering is one that you can’t stay on forever, either because it is too unhealthy or because it requires you to continue to purchase a particular company’s products, it is not really a good weight loss program.
Why?
Because once you reach your goal and stop the diet you will revert to you old eating habits. And when you do, you will regain any weight you lost – usually with interest! This is known as
yo-yo dieting,
and it is more damaging to your health than never losing weight in the first place.
Target Belly Fat. That spare tire at around your middle is doing more than just ruining your looks! It's also making it difficult for you to lose weight and placing you at high risk for heart attacks, strokes, diabetes, and cancer.
This is because, unlike the fat on your hips or thighs,
belly fat
is a metabolically active tissue. It secretes substances that make your tissues resistant to the hormone insulin and that create generalized inflammation.
When your tissues become resistance to insulin your pancreas has to produce excessive amounts of the hormone in order to get the sugar that's in your blood stream into your body's cells.
Insulin inhibits fat breakdown, so high insulin levels will keep you from losing weight.
And the excessive demand on your pancreas also puts you at high risk of developing diabetes.
In addition to creating insulin resistance, belly fat also secretes substances that create inflammation placing you at risk for many other diseases including heart attacks strokes, cancers and dementias.
Be Good For Diabetics. Poor diet and excess weight have created an epidemic of diabetes. In fact, if you are overweight and aren’t yet a
diabetic
diabetic you are probably on your way to becoming one. So the ideal weight loss program needs to not only lower body fat, it also needs to lower blood sugar levels.
Accommodate Gluten-Free Living.
Celiac disease
is an intestinal disorder cause by a sensitivity to a group of proteins known as
glutens
that are found in wheat and closely related grains.
While full-blown celiac disease is uncommon, many people suffer from intestinal problems such as bloating and cramping caused by glutens. Glutens have also been associated with allergies and autoimmune disorders. So a good weight loss program needs to allow - and even encourage - gluten free eating.
Be Easy To Understand and Simple To Follow. Let’s face it, if you need measure your food ,count calories, calculate grams of protein, fat and carbohydrate you’re much less likely to stick with a weight loss program. An ideal weight loss program won’t require you to do any of these things.
Provide Ongoing Support. No matter what weight loss program you follow you are going to occasionally get discouraged, experience set-backs or have questions. So it’s critical that the weight loss program you choose provides ongoing support and assistance.
