    Diets Are Temporary. When you go on a diet you always plan to go off the diet at some point. And when you do, you return to your old eating habits. And guess what happens then?

    You return to your old weight of course! Only now, thanks to the mechanisms described below, you are likely to gain more weight than you lost on the diet and are guaranteed to have a more difficult time losing that weight the next time you go on a diet.

    Diets Harm Your Body. Dieting causes changes in your body that virtually ensure that you will not only stop losing weight (reach the dreaded "plateau") but that you will also regain the weight you lost on your diet. These changes include:

    • Loss of muscle tissue. When you diet you don’t just lose fat. You lose muscle.

      Muscle is a very metabolically active tissue. When you lose muscle you lower your metabolic rate or the rate at which you burn calories. This not only slows your weight loss but makes it easy to regain the weight you lost - and more!

    • Changes in your hormonal status. Low calorie dieting causes changes in your body’s hormonal levels that actually make it hang on to fat.

      For example, low calorie dieting results in increased levels of cortisol - a hormone that encourages fat storage. Dieting also reduces the effectiveness of thyroid hormone. This lowers your metabolic rate, and makes you feel tired and unable to exercise.


    Diets Are Difficult To Follow. The more difficult something is the less likely we are to stick with it. And let’s face it: If you have to count calories, count points or calculate the number of carbohydrates or grams of protein you eat every day - well, how long are you going to be able to force yourself to do that?

    Diets Fail To Address The Underlying Cause Of Obesity And Weight Gain. Most diets focus only on calories. But, while calories do count, the types of foods we select, the amount of food we eat at one time, and our underlying hormonal status are much more important!

    Diets Do Not Address The Psychological Aspects Of Weight Loss. Diets are just that: Diets. They don’t provide the motivational tools you need, help you change the way you eat, or end the cravings that keep you running back to unhealthy foods.
